McCune Law Group Investigating Overheating and Engine Failure in Toyota RAV4 Vehicles

McCune Law Group is investigating claims for a potential class action related to overheating and engine failure in model year 2013-2018 Toyota RAV4 vehicles.

Based on nearly a dozen serious complaints of malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that it has opened a preliminary evaluation based on reports that Toyota’s RAV4 vehicles have a tendency to overheat in the battery compartment, risking stalls, loss of power, and fires. Toyota has also released early warning report data finding that a “non-crash thermal event” has been happening in 2013-2018 RAV4 models. Several of these “events” have occurred with drivers experiencing stalling prior to the thermal event.  The car’s battery is the area of origin in many of the events reviewed by NHTSA.

There are approximately 1.9 million 2013-2018 Toyota RAV4s in circulation today, one of the most popular sports utility vehicles sold in the United States. Despite NHTSA’s investigation, Toyota has taken no action to recall RAV4 vehicles or otherwise protect Toyota RAV4 owners from the harm that may result from the defect.  As a result, there are nearly two million vehicles on the road with a potential defect that can cause overheating and engine failure, with potentially catastrophic results that unreasonably increase the risks of bodily injury and death.
