Kia Soul and Sorento Headlight Failure: What You Need to Know

In June 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a Preliminary Evaluation to investigate allegations of headlight failures in 2014-2015 Kia Soul and 2011-2019 Kia Sorento vehicles, as well as headlight failures in 2011-2013 Kia Sorento models. The agency states, “The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 74 reports of sudden, unexpected loss of headlights in model year 2011-2013 Kia Sorento vehicles. The cause of the problem may be related to thermal overload of the connectors.”

Understanding the Kia Soul and Sorento Headlight Failure

Headlight failure can happen for a variety of reasons, but in these Kia models, it may also be related to a faulty headlight multi-function switch. This switch is responsible for controlling the headlights, turn signals, and other lighting functions in the vehicle. When it fails, the headlights may flicker, dim, or stop working altogether, which can make it difficult for the driver to see the road ahead, especially at night.

  • Product Liability: Defective vehicle components that pose a risk to consumer cases fall under the category of product liability.
  • Class Action Lawsuits: If numerous consumers are affected by the same vehicle safety issue, they may form a class action to bring a joint suit against a negligent company.
