2020 has been a year unlike any other for millions of Americans. Through its wild twists and turns, many businesses have had to learn to be flexible, change how their business runs, or alter their business model entirely. McCune Wright Arevalo, LLP, (MWA) was no exception. We’ve changed the way we operate and have taken the time to find untapped opportunity that has led to success. We’re proud to say that, despite pandemics and unrest, MWA has continued to grow over the past year, thanks to the hard work, creativity, and dedication of our team. With the support and talent of our employees and community members, we now present our greatest moments of 2020.

New Opportunities Inspire the Writs, Motions, & Appeals Practice Group.
As courts began their closures in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear to the MWA team that written argument would take center stage during 2020. In-person hearings were cut in favor of written submissions to the court and appellate courts continued to rely on written briefings to inform their decisions. Seeing this need, MWA opened a new, dedicated practice group specifically for assistance with the written word – the Writs, Motions, & Appeals Practice Group. In this practice, MWA co-counsels with other firms to help them perfect their briefings and motions before submission to the court. We’re proud to assist in this often-overlooked area of law and look forward to the new opportunities it can provide.

The Racial & Economic Justice Practice Group is Born.
2020 was not only characterized by a life-changing pandemic, but also by societal unrest spurned on by racial inequality. MWA recognized these calls for change and quickly began work on an area of law specializing in righting the wrongs experienced by people of color and those in low-income households. We welcomed established community bridgebuilder Joseph Richardson, Esq., to the firm to lead our Racial & Economic Justice Practice Group. With this new group, MWA has made strides to bring the community together and support those who are most in need.

MWA Hits 25 Attorneys!
Since the beginning, MWA has held lofty goals of providing legal support to citizens nationwide. From our first office in Ontario, California, we’ve grown to a firm encompassing six branches – four in Southern California, one in Illinois, and one in New Jersey. We haven’t finished growing yet, though. This year alone, we welcomed six new attorneys to the family, bringing our total team count to 25! We look forward to the months and years ahead in which we will open more branches across the United States and invite dozens more talented legal professionals to MWA.

MWA is Home to Four Super Lawyers®!
At MWA, we don’t hire just any attorneys to represent our community. We seek out only the most educated and experienced candidates who we feel will put our clients first always. Because of our commitment to continued education and improvement among our team, we’ve also developed a culture of growth and recognition. This year, four of our own have been graciously recognized by Super Lawyers® for their work in class actions, civil litigation, medical malpractice, and personal injury – Richard D. McCune, Cory R. Weck, Derek Y. Brandt, and Steven J. Weinberg. With only 5% of attorneys being named Super Lawyers® yearly, we are truly honored to be home to four. MWA hopes to continue this trend in 2021 and beyond.
