Mitsubishi recently admitted to manipulating test data involving 625,000 vehicles in Japan in order to improve fuel-economy claims. These vehicles include “minicars” whose main attraction is better mileage. Mitsubishi’s president admitted in a news conference on April 20: “The wrongdoing was intentional. It is clear the falsification was done to make the mileage look better.” It is alleged that Mitsubishi manipulated the load placed on the tires in order to make their fuel economy performance appear better.
Mitsubishi Motors stated that it will investigate whether fuel economy information was falsified for any automobiles exported from Japan. McCune Wright Arevalo has been in the forefront of litigation against auto manufacturers for falsifying fuel economy, in cases against Hyundai, Kia, and Ford.
