Discrimination Within Amazon Warehouses
Employees, past and present, are alleging workplace discrimination, racism, and hostile work environment. According to the Amazon discrimination lawsuit filed against Amazon warehouses, Black employees in the Joliet, Illinois, MDW2 fulfillment center have been experiencing racism, racial discrimination, retaliation, and death threats. Additionally, when the Black employees asked for better security at the warehouse amid death threats, the complaint alleges they were repeatedly denied and told their only options were to leave work for the day. Allegedly, this case of discrimination at Amazon warehouses is not isolated, however. Many reports of discrimination within Amazon warehouses are beginning to surface.
The employees that filed the complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) are now claiming they feel unsafe to speak out against these terrible acts out of fear of retaliation from warehouse management. Other workers in the warehouse also allege that management ignored complaints of other employees wearing clothing that contained images of the Confederate flag.

Types of Discrimination in the Workplace
Discrimination in the workplace can take on various forms. In 2017 alone, the EEOC reported over 80,000 employment discrimination charges filed that resulted in $400 million in compensation for victims. Of those filed charges, they boiled down to approximately 12 types of employment discrimination lawsuits. Employees most often experience discrimination based on:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender & sexual orientation
- National origin
- Race & color
- Religion

You Deserve Equal Treatment in the Workplace
McCune Law wants to speak to you if you are Black, African American, identify as or are perceived as Black (regardless of your national origin), and have experienced racially biased treatment in the Inland Empire Amazon warehouses. California Attorney General Bonta’s most recent California Hate Crimes Report (2022) notes that “hate crimes targeting Black people remain the most prevalent.” Calling this an “epidemic of hate,” Bonta notes that hate crimes in California are higher than they have been in more than 20 years. Workplace bias is an especially toxic form of hate.
While most racial bias historically has involved white supervisors or colleagues, there is a different pattern emerging in the Inland Empire. Per the LA Times: “the two largest racial bias cases brought by the federal government in California in the last decade alleged widespread abuse of hundreds of Black employees at warehouses in the Inland Empire.” Notes the LA Times: “In interviews, Black employees said a torrent of racist insults and discriminatory treatment was mainly inflicted by Latino co-workers and supervisors who composed roughly three-quarters of the workforces at the sprawling facilities in Ontario and Moreno Valley.
Employees in the workplace deserve an environment that is free of any hostility, including discrimination and prejudice. By law, employee(s) may not be subjected to discrimination in any aspect of their work environment including hiring, firing, promotions, training, wages, and benefits. Any discrimination in these areas can create a hostile work environment for an employee. An employee can experience employment discrimination in the form of overt actions or statements, harassment from coworkers or superiors, and even denial of reasonable accommodations.
The Racial and Economic Justice attorneys of McCune Law Group are ready to help you. If you feel your rights have been violated by Amazon’s alleged actions, contact us today by calling (909) 345-8110 or by completing the form.
