Subaru Outback and Legacy Steering Recall – Class Action Investigation
McCune Wright Arevalo, LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of certain Subaru Outback (MY 2015-2017) and Subaru Legacy (MY 2016-2017) owners and lessees. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an incorrect setting of a tool used in production of the steering column in these vehicles may have resulted in improper machining of one of the steering column shafts. If this improper machining condition exists, the steering column shaft may not engage properly. If this were to occur, the steering wheel may rotate freely and the driver would lose the ability to steer the vehicle.
Unfortunately, parts for this repair are not yet available. Regardless, Subaru has stated that owners and lessees of these vehicles should stop driving the vehicle and contact a Subaru dealer to have it picked up and repaired. It is unclear if Subaru is providing owners with alternative transportation during the time when individuals are without their vehicles as a result of the recall.
