McCune Wright Arevalo, LLP Investigating Windshield Wiper Failure in the Chevy Equinox, and GMC Terrain.

McCune Wright Arevalo, LLP, is investigating claims for a potential class action related to windshield wiper malfunction and failure in the 2012-2014 and 2015-2017 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain.

Thousands of vehicle owners have reported experiencing malfunction or failure of their windshield wipers. Despite General Motors’s (GM) longstanding knowledge of this dangerous defect, it has failed to recall all potentially affected vehicles.

In 2016, GM issued a safety recall for the 2013 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain to address the problems leading to windshield wiper failures. However, GM has declined to recall the 2012-2014 and 2015-2017 model years of these vehicles, even though their wiper assembly components are identical to the 2013 models and are reportedly equally affected by the wiper defect.

Too Little Too Late From GM

In 2019, GM initiated a “Special Coverage Adjustment Program” that extends the warranty on the wipers—free of charge—and will reimburse owners for the cost of previous repairs to the wiper assembly components of 2012-2014 and 2015-2017 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain. However, under the adjustment program, owners must first experience failure of their windshield wipers before being eligible for repairs or replacement at GM’s cost.

GM’s failure to perform a proper safety recall has left thousands of vehicles on the road with malfunctioning wipers. These failures can happen without warning and severely diminish a driver’s road visibility during inclement weather, increasing the risks of bodily injury and death.
