Current Lawsuit

McCune Wright Arevalo filed a class action lawsuit in North Carolina federal court on behalf of businesses, hourly employees, tourists and rental property owners who have been financially impacted by the Ocracoke, Hatteras Island Blackout.

The Complaint alleges that PCL Construction Enterprises and PCL Civil Constructors were performing construction around the Bonner Bridge on July 27, 2017, when employees negligently “drove a steel casing into the underground transmission cable that runs between the south end of the Bonner Bridge and the overhead riser pole.” This damage caused widespread blackouts and resulted in the governor issuing an order to evacuate Ocracoke and Hatteras Island. Businesses are losing significant revenue as a result of the lost business during peak tourist season. If you are an Ocracoke or Hatteras island business owner, tourist, hourly employee or own a rental property that has been financially impacted by the islands’ loss of power, please contact us.
